If you intend to register your marriage in China, please make sure you have checked with the Foreign Marriage Registration Office of the Department of Civil Bureau to obtain advice on their requirements.
The Australian Consulate-General in Chengdu can issue you with a Certificate of No Impediment (CNI) to enable you to marry in China. You need to bring your original Australian Passport and your intended spouse’s original Chinese passport or Chinese ID card. If either of you have been married before you will also need to provide original divorce papers or the original death certificate of the former spouse and complete the details of the divorce/death on the CNI application from. If the aforementioned documents are not in English, they must be accompanied by an English translation, prepared by a professional translator.
You can download the CNI Application Form via smartraveller.gov.au. Please complete the form in English, and please make sure you use black colour pen and upper-case letters. Please don’t sign (page 3) until you are instructed to do so by the consular officer at the counter.
